As you might have notice this blog plays around the progressive word, The main objective is to help on the promotion of metal and trying to change the perspective metal=noise.
However, Expect the unexpected. Mainly focussed on progressive metal or rock, but easily going to catch some good stuff to bands with only some progressive elements. And sometimes also going totally out of the progressive genre and of metal. Help you discovering what has been done of value around the world in my opinion.
Next 24th May, there will be a released an album which promises a lot, from SOTO. The tittle track is amazing, Origami, I can't stop hearing it. heavy enough without being too much for my taste.
The other song revealed so far is called "BeLie" is less heavy than the first one, going in a more melodic direciton. the voice makes me remember Jorn Lande at spaces.
Greetings. I recently on my search found this band. It is a mic of melody with a harsh voice, it fits pretty well to me to be honest. Thos ewho are more into harsh voices, may found very interesting this band from San Francisco.
One of these days in a pastime I usually take part in, someone remembered me of this band. I always really loved Live, they had something different if they were considered post-Grunge like several other bands. Musics like 1994'sThrowing Copper album song "Selling the Drama" were already mesmerizing to me mixing the power of music and lyrics. This album was however where I took notion of what Live was, joining songs and the name.
At that time "Dolphin's Cry" run in all radios and TV's a song about an orgasm was only fair to give eargasms to, no? ahah
Another song came around later, "Run to the Water" a big message like the one to make us wake up, mixing again an amazing lyrics with melody and rythm.
Hope you enjoy this Callback of mine to this amazing band. Cheers
Recently it was revealed the first song of the album Warrel Dane was preparing and recording before dying. Hearing it still makes it harder to accept his death as he still had a lot to give to metal genre. In my opinion in this song "Disconnection System" we can hear a lot of the atmosphere we heard in obsidian conspiracy(last Nevermore Album). I enjoy it a lot, dark atmosphere, hunting lyrics, if you like me enjoy Nevermore you will enjoy this one. The new album is out in October 26th later this year.
Today I bring you a band in a interesting fusion between rock/alternative rock and electronic music. Even inside that registry they presents different sonorities. On "Interchanger" it is a heavier riff,
While in Black Space it is the syntesyzers and electronic bits that have predominance
For last Come Back Down, has a more rocky sound to it, with parts remembering the vibes of industrial. I think it is for sure a band to keep track on.
Today I was dwelling on YouTube and came across this band, I really enjoy it, it is only the only song I've heard from them, I'm curious to hear more, but so far vocalist makes me remember of TesseracT voice and sonority from Anubis gate in Andromeda Unchained phase. I really enjoy it, progression and powerful and melodic voice, curious to hear more soon. Hope you also enjoy this USA band, here with the song Sirens
This is a quick post, because I don't want the Saturday spot to be empty by any means. This is a song that has been resonating in my head, maybe it wants to tell me something, I believe sometimes you are hearing a song once and again in your head cause your subconscious wants to advise you about something you are clearly not seeing and its right in front of your eyes. Maybe because of some illusions I had in a recent past that proven to be only disillusions, this song talks partly about that something that could have been amazing but it really isn't. I know the lyric videos has some wrong bits, but I prefer it over the censored official video. Some parts of the lyrics in some way made me remember of the song "End of This Chapter" from Sonata Arctica, the lyrics only.
this will be a 3 post week, from Wednesday to Wednesday, check around for another post next Wednesday. Cheers.
I don't like passing to much time without posting anything, so I remember to show you something you may not have come across. It's Art of Anarchy which counts with ex-Creed Voclaist Scott Stapp, it is a style much less rocky and more towards hard rock. I think you will enjoy the song "No Surrender"
Since I heard about this project featuring Matt Barlow's amazing voice and the amazing quality of Jonah's keyboards that I was anxious to hear something/anything from this project. Once again Jacob Hansen Mixed and mastered this masterpiece. last 29th November they finally showed us something, makes me remember with nostalgia Immortal album without the chords. I love it, stay with their recently revaled song, "SOUL ON FIRE"
Today I bring you something new I found last year, but only now could hear properly. Earthside. This USA band has some of the nicest things a progressive sound nowadays must have. The first song I'm showing you is Mob Mentality feat. Lajon Witherspoon & MSSO(Moscow Studio Symphony Orchestra). The voice of Lajon from Sevendust is simply amazing, the cadence of his voice, with the nuances of the Ochestra are amazing
The second song i'm sharing with you is the homonymous song of the album A dream in Static feat Daniel Tompkins(Ex-TesseracT)
Today I bring you something I find outstanding, once I shared with you Pyramaze, and there I told you Jonah is one of my favourite keyboarders around there. Here is the proof, Dance of The Mourning Child is his solo project. Where we can see him in full splendour. This song really brings the strength and fury of Winter. Is amazing.
Today I bring you history, this a song directly from the beginning of the 90's what a song this is.
The 90's have something in it's songs that really amuses me.
Today I bring you something totally different, one of my recently pleasurable findings. Directly form late 60's, the first time I heard it, I intermediately started to love it. Scott Walker is an North American singer, born in Hamilton, Ohio, USA.
I stumble upon Scott Walker after while listening The Last Shadow Puppets, Age of the understatement, someone pointed the influence of Scott Walker there
Music to hear with pleasure, songs beautifully constructed, some from already existing ones in France and Belgium.
The first one I am going to show you is called "Jackie", From Scott 2, a song which is a remake of an original one from Jacques Brel.
This one is my favourite one, a Ballad from Scott 2 album, "Best of Both Worlds"
This one is a version of a Frank Sinatra's song, which on it's hand is a version of Ne Me Quittes Pas from Jacques Brel, it's called "If you go Away"
The last song is a strong one, very well composed with a sound more elaborated, from "Five easy pieces, 2nd album" Joanna.
Hope you enjoy this as much as me, After several day posting stuff I start to publish more spaced in time to let who may be able to read my blog to listen carefully what I bring
Greetings, and see you soon
Today I will talk about one of the main stars of Progressive Metal - SYMPHONY X
Formed in 1994 in New Jersey by it's guitarist Michael Romeo. They immense strength comes from several elements, some from the core of progressive metal, others more from prog rock, and a lot of influences from power metal.
The vocals on this band are also amazing, the voice of Russel Allan, today I can say that in my top 10 singers there are two USA singers DC Cooper and Russel Allan
Russel Allan - Symphony X vocalist
Who know my musical roots, will know which album brought me to Symphony X. The divine Wings of Tragedy from 1997. And why? would you ask? because for me is the one where the power metal influence is more clear.
Talking only about one song is really hard, cause being the songs in the album:
1.
Of Sins and Shadows
04:58
2.
Sea of Lies
04:19
3.
Out of the Ashes
03:40
4.
The Accolade
09:51
5.
Pharaoh
05:29
6.
The Eyes of Medusa
05:26
7.
The Witching Hour
04:15
8.
The Divine Wings of Tragedy
20:43
9.
Candlelight Fantasia
06:45
I Can say that all the songs are special on its genre. I started with Of sins and Shadows and Out of the Ashes, probably if you came from Power metal to, this are the ones that resemble more that kind of style.
However The Accolade is really really strong, power guitar and bass but then a lot of emotion put in the lyrics. It's a story for sure. Then recently I discovered Pharaoh, Sea of Lies and The Eyes of Medusa. These 3 are more power progressive metal, you clearly see the pace changing on these songs.
But for me as they say here in my Land, the last ones are always the first.
And Candlelight Fantasia is just too perfect, simply amazing. From lyrics, to music to interconnection of the sounds. A true masterpiece to close a fantastic album. This is the one I will share with you here from this album, it's because of this songs that sometimes hearing a song years later can make a difference. a Song can simply mean nothing to you today, but in some months, years, specially after having the maturity to enjoy that music you simply ignored once, now is the best of all the ones you heard from that album. Trust me when I say, the songs which take longer to enter in your mind through your ears are the ones you will remember later, the other ones that are easily catchy one day or another you will probably grow tired of them, I use the term "musicas orelhudas" in a very direct translation Songs with big ears, are song design to enter our ears not for it's complexity but because it has simple elements that make them easier to remember.
Another album that I also love now, but which I avoided for too much time is Iconoclast from 2011 (don't stop on this two all their discography is worthwhile to be heard. I just have to narrow a bit and I pass directly to another album which is clearly more progressive metal, not so power as before. Here I will share with you also the last song of the album When All is Lost, A continuously changing pace, that will defy a lot of what you conceive as metal or not, as melodic or speedy, another piece of art as Symphony X used us to.
Just to mention another great song, Try Paradise Lost, from the album with the same name, the same album from Set the World on fire, the official videoclip. Hear also both of them and then you also understand that sometimes symphony x, also add heavy sounds to power and progressive metal
